2000 Field Season |

| In January of 2000, we conducted a non-collection reconnaissance survey (Abydos Survey for Paleolithic Sites or ASPS) along the edges of the Nile Valley and in the High Desert immediately adjacent to the historic site of Abydos (see Maps). | |

Over the course of five days, we thoroughly examined sections of several topographic contexts and recorded 20 Paleolithic localities with elevated artifact densities. Of these localities, one was identified as Acheulian, nine were Middle Paleolithic, four appeared to be nodule testing sites of Lower/Middle Paleolithic age, four were Upper Paleolithic or later, and two were nondiagnostic. |
