ASPS 2002-2003. The results of the ASPS 2000
reconnaissance survey indicated that the density of artifactual material
in the High Desert was both variable and in places extremely high.
Based on this finding, we started a project to systematically survey this
area to better understand changing patterns of landscape use during the
Paleolithic. In the winter of 2002-2003, we spent approximately
four weeks in the desert doing a combination of systematic survey over
large areas and
intensive collection of two high density occurrences. From this work
we are now developing models to explain the formation and distribution of
materials across this landscape.
