Several of these large and fairly crude handaxes were found at location ASPS-20.  Lower Paleolithic occurrences are rare thus far.

We have found a few isolated handaxes like this one on the High Desert.
This classic, Middle Paleolithic, Nubian core was found during the 2000 survey season.  Both Levallois and Nubian cores are numerous in our survey area.

There are also a few locations with late Upper Paleolithic or Neolithic elements.  One of these is ASPS-46. (drawing by Laurence Chiotti)
This core and the flakes that refit to it were found during the 2000 survey (ASPS-19).  Refits, showing the horizontal integrity of the these surface occurrences, are common.
