| Based in part on previous reconnaissance work and in part on the results of the transect survey, we identified two high-density locations that we investigated in more detail during this season (A0046 and A0049). The research goals in each case were similar. We wanted to do more extensive controlled collections from the surface of some high density locations to collect data a) on how they relate to the low density scatters around them, b) on what their internal structure is like, and c) on the technological and typological characteristics of the assemblages that derive from these kinds of locations. In addition, we conducted excavations at one location (A0046) to assess the potential for stratified components and we tested various sampling/collection methodologies. |
