Rolled and edge damaged artifacts
The artifacts in the photo above, recovered from our excavations in the Tayacian layers, are typical. Note the edge damage on the pieces. In addition, the presence of frost-fractured flint eroding directly from the walls of the cave has made it very difficult to separate artifacts from ecofacts.
Cobbles
Quartz pebbles, such as these, are found in abundance in the Tayacian levels and on the plateau above the cave. While a few have a single flake removal, the vast majority are unmodified. It seems likely that they entered the cave via the chimney with sediments from the plateau, and they may be at least partially responsible for the large amount of edge damage on the flints.
