Steve Schwortz: Up Close and Personal

Affiliation: University of Pennsylvania

submatriculant working on an M.A.; interest is paleoanthropology

Favorite Pech pastime: scaling the Pech cliffs

Little known fact: took an avalanche rescue class

Favorite saying: "The Total Station's a piece of cake now."

Profile: Steve's been at Pech IV before and is next going to an excavation in Spain. He's an avid rock climber, and has climbed all over the East Coast, as well as parts of the Western States, and in France. He first got into the sport as a camp counselor-in-training, when he preferred ropes to arts and crafts. Steve once drove 35 hours from Philadelphia to the El Paso, Texas, area just to rock climb for the weekend. He also bikes nearly everywhere, sunshine, rain, snow, or sleet.
