| Aside from taking the west section down to bedrock, the other main goal of this season is to resample Level 8 on the south section (shown here). This level rests on the bedrock and sealed at the top by an extensive layer of roof fall. The photo shows the thin lenses of burned materials that characterize this level. We would learn more about the extent and character of these burn features this year. You can watch a portion of this level being excavated on our time lapse camera. |
