Time Lapse Photography - How we do
it. |
| |
The time lapse photography is done with
an older Kodak camera (model DC265) that you can still find on eBay.
The key to this camera is that you can program it to take a photo every
few minutes. How many photos you take is only limited by the size of
the memory card. We have owned several other digital camera models
since then (including some high-end models) and none of them have this
feature.
An alternative is to use a web cam or digital camera attached to a laptop
programmed to take periodic images. Though we have not done this, it
is fairly easy and inexpensive to do with software that is widely
available on the internet. The main downsides to this approach are
1) the system is a little more cumbersome to setup and b) it requires good
batteries or power for the laptop.
Once we have a day of images, we compile them into an AVI movie using a
program called VideoMach.
This is one of many inexpensive programs that can create movies from a
series of still images. |
